Yaroslav Aulin was born in Kirovohrad, Ukraine. He obtained his Master’s degree with honors in Applied Physics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and “Top Master in Nanoscience” cum laude from the University of Groningen.  He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2016, where he was working on laser spectroscopy of organic materials for photovoltaics.

In September 2015, Yaroslav joined the Borguet group as a Visiting Research Scholar.  His primary goal in the group is to use nonlinear spectroscopy tools to study surfaces, interfaces, layered and 2D materials. Yaroslav is working on the development of ultrabroadband infrared laser sources for vibrational Sum Frequency Generation (vSFG) spectroscopy, using noncollinear optical parametric amplification process (NOPA). He is planning to use vSFG as well as various other optical spectroscopy techniques such as Raman, FTIR, photoluminescence, transient absorption, etc. to study the properties of two dimensional and layered materials.
