Qimin Yan obtained his PhD degree in Materials supervised by Prof. Chris Van de Walle and Prof. Matthias Scheffler in the Materials Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. After completing the PhD study in 2012, he started his postgraduate career at UCSB and moved to Berkeley in 2013 as a Postdoc Fellow working with Prof. Jeffrey B. Neaton at the Molecular Foundry, LBNL and the Department of Physics, UC Berkeley. In summer 2016, he joined the Department of Physics at Temple University as an assistant professor.

Research Interests
My research interest is to develop first-principles computational algorithms and data-driven technologies to identify and exploit structure–property relationships in functional materials and accelerate the discovery, understanding, and development of advanced materials, such as semiconductors for solar energy conversion, multi-functional complex oxides, and efficient fuel production catalysts. My current research is aimed at:

  • Design and discovery of topological materials
  • Magnetic properties of two-dimensional materials
  • Defects and carrier recombinations in semiconductors
  • Data-driven discovery of complex metal oxides for solar fuel generation.
